…AS THE ROADS AND TRANSPORT AUTHORITY (RTA) SIGNS A FREE-WI-FI DEAL WITH DU
Dubai is fast-becoming a Smart city in all ramifications. One that genuinely cares about the interests of its residents, visitors and everyone within its borders.
Recently, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) enters a deal with the renowned telecom operator, DU, to install free Wi-Fi internet facility in all of its 10,800 taxis; making the commercial transport vehicles a mobile internet-hub for all its passengers. It would also save them the time while enabling them to accomplish several tasks on-the-go.
The deal which concluded about the 3rd week of October and signed on Wednesday, the 17th, at the Gitex Technology Week. A development which anyone would attest to as a proactive move by RTA in its effort to enhance mobility solutions in Dubai.
According to the signed agreement, du is expected to commence the installation of the required Wi-Fi devices to the taxicabs; and would have completed fittings in all operational fleet vehicles of the six franchise companies in Dubai – within one year; with effect from Wednesday, the 17th. As stated by the CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, Ahmad Hashem Behroozian.
In a statement by the du CEO, Osman Sultan, he affirms that the initiative was an important step, by the technology giant, towards supporting the UAE Government’s Vision 2021 in its provision of accessible modern telecommunication services.
Some would recall that this initiative comes barely 2 years after the launch of a pilot project by du, in 2016, to equip 500 airport taxis in Dubai with Wi-Fi enabled service.
